Confessions of an OWCP Provider!
Hello, this is Dr. Kustin, CEO of One-Fed. For the past few months, I’ve been sharing insights on our What The Fed Blog, and I’ve been thrilled by the interest people have shown in understanding our “Why” — why we do what we do.
As a physician, I took a solemn oath to “do no harm,” and I believe this duty extends beyond simply avoiding harm; it calls for actively supporting those who need help the most. When we began focusing on the treatment of all injured Federal employees, I was struck by the unacceptable challenges they face after an injury.
Our first priority was to master the claims process with the OWCP. One-Fed developed proprietary claims management software that significantly simplifies claim submissions, reducing errors and streamlining approvals. We’ve also refined the steps necessary to address denied claims. This approach has resulted in a clean claims rate of over 97% on the first submission and a 100% acceptance rate by the second re-submission.
Let me clarify what this means for our patients: if your claim is approved before the 45-day Continuation of Pay (COP) traumatic injury ends, there’s a much lower chance of pay interruptions. Meaning, once your (COP) benefits end and your claim is approved, you will be qualified to receive your OWCP benefits through filing your CA-7 without any interruption.
However, achieving this depends heavily on choosing a medical provider who truly understands the OWCP process. In fact, many claim issues arise from working with providers unfamiliar with these specific requirements. Further, your Union can not write an initial medical narrative. Your RWCA can not write an initial medical narrative. Only a medical doctor can provide a medical narrative requiring Causation. More specifically, your RWCA can be a trusted resource in the event that your provider is unfamiliar with OWCP.
Now, back to our “Why.” One-Fed’s mission is to offer the medical support and treatment needed by those who serve our country. What does it say about us as a society if we abandon people in their time of need? Hearing the struggles of our patients and the obstacles they face only strengthened my commitment to help.
In both business and life, I’m not one to accept “no” for an answer without exploring every possible way to “yes.” My team and I take the same approach with each claimant who reaches out to us. Even if we don’t have a clinic nearby, we assist by connecting them with a provider, answering their claims questions, and guiding them in the right direction. Our purpose, our “Why,” is to help every claimant get their claim approved and access the treatment they need.
If you or someone you know is struggling with an OWCP claim, please don’t hesitate to contact our headquarters at 833-433-3487. We’re here to help.
